It's a little past midnight on International Women's Day, and Kathryn Bigelow just became the first woman to win a Best Director Oscar (yaay!).
I'm just saying. There are times to be dismissive of tokenism, but this is not one of them.
Of shoes -- and ships -- and sealing wax -- Of cabbages -- and kings -- And why the sea is boiling hot -- And whether pigs have wings.

Now, since I am a little biased when it comes to war movies – especially the all American hero type- I am reluctant about going to see it. But maybe I shall …(and not just because the Oscars it won)
Oh yes and what a Hard Kaur she is!! I think I'm a little bit in love with her - the rest of my heart is taken up with Tilda Swinton, Damn Judi Dench, Marin Alsop and Martha Argerich of course. Thank God she didn't kill HL with gratuitous romance (cue to The Departed, which totally fucked up Infernal Affairs with the Fading Farmiga).
n!
Tokenism or not, it's just not a very good film. So I am not dismissing her victory, just her film.
A token achievement for a token day.
Lotte Reiniger, Chantal Akerman and Jane Campion didn't win Best Director Oscars, but who cares
