Mengelberg and Manhattan

There's nothing quite like the sound of a trumpet player in full flow, is there? Just got back from a performance of the Misha Mengelberg Quartet, featuring an electrifying performance by trumpet player Dave Douglas. Also notable were Mengelberg's lovely melodies and the inimitable hi-jinx of Han Bennink, who is to percussion what Chico Marx is to the piano. But for me the highlight of the show was easily Douglas' performance. Glorious, glorious stuff.

Meanwhile, am off to NYC for the weekend - hoping to renew my long-standing love affair with the immortal Jeanne Moreau and catch the Klimt exhibition at the Neue Galerie (complete with pretentious French spelling). See you after the weekend.
