You decide

Okay, on the general principle that one should be responsive to one's readers (also known as the principle of getting other people to make decisions for you that you're too lazy to make yourself):

It's been suggested in the last couple of days that the current format of the 2x3x7 (the black background mostly) is making it hard to read (yes, neela, I know you said this 7 months ago). Personally, I like the black background and changing will mean some amount of effort, but let me know if it's an issue that many of you feel strongly about and I'll try and change it over the weekend.

Also, while we're about it - does anyone know a way to create links within a post? It's been suggested that it would be useful if I could create links to my footnotes, so that you don't have to scroll to the bottom of the post and then come back up again. (Of course, it's also been suggested that I a) use less footnotes b) write shorter posts [1] but I'm trying to look for realistic solutions here).

P.S. Any other suggestions on the format of this blog are also welcome (that's generally true, not just with this post). Though you should know that I don't have a pot large enough to boil my head in.

Notes

[1] I don't really have anything to say in this footnote. It just felt like the line demanded it.

Once you figure out these two things, please explain to moi too... Want to change the dark background in my blog as well. And yes, footnotes.

However, if this is very technical, then probably I wouldn't be able to do. For I have been trying to get categories to show up as a page on my blog for long, but am unsuccessful!!

1) For linking to footnotes:

1
1

The first tag is used in the text, for linking to the footnote. The second one is used to label the footnote itself. To return to the text, simply click the back button on the browser.

For more help, google: "html" + "creating links within a page"

2) Personally, the black background is just fine. It's easy on the eyes if you ask me.

This is what someone has to say about black backgrounds and white font:

"I've chosen a black background for most of my text because it's easier on the eyes than staring at a white screen. Think about it: your monitor is not a piece of paper, no matter how hard you try to make it one. Staring at a white background while you read is like staring at a light bulb (don't believe me? Try turning off the lights next time you use a word processor). Would you stare at a light bulb for hours at a time? Not if you want to keep your vision."

But yes, you could extend the left margin further, so that there is more to read on very line.

3) Format of the blog - you could have just one post on the home page, with buttons for "Next post", "Previous post" and "Home". The blogger templates site (http://blogger-templates.blogspot.com/) has a few tips on how to do this.

Hope this helps -- sorry for spamming the comments section.

The tags should read as:

*a name="1"#1*/a#
*a name="1"#1*/a#

* is for open tag, which is <.
# is for close tag, which is >.

I tried publishing the html as text, but blogger screwed it up.

i like the background the way it is. And wow for the comment from anon-RS:)I just avoid the footnotes most of the time as I am too lazy to scroll back and find what they relate to.

Falstaff,

1. The link for the html codes for colors is at http://webmonkey.wired.com/webmonkey/reference/color_codes/

Alternatively, please mail me your template (copy-->paste-in-word-->mail-to-indianinuk-at-gmail-dot-com). I'll make the changes & mail them back to you after easter! Will also implement them on another temporary blog, to which you could be a co-manager, so that you can view the results before you implement them!

2. Could i ask you for full-text-feeds please? I do my reading in bloglines (reading blogs in office can be a problem), and usually only visit them to comment! Thanks

Going for the cosmetic surgery, hugh? Sounds like a lot of work to me.
I made changes to my blog. It used to resemble yours in format. It looks differant now, but it still sucks...

I actually like the black background. Maybe I just got used to it. It makes a nice contrast from you other blog which kind of seems to make sense. To me, at least.

dhoomk2: Yes, figuring out that categories business took me a while as well. The price we pay for doing Economics.

RS: Thanks. That was really helpful. Linked footnotes coming up!

d&c: thanks. But Gasp! YOU'RE IGNORING MY FOOTNOTES!! I'm wounded. How much sharper than a serpent's tongue, etc.

Just Mohit: Thanks for the offer. I should be able to fix the template myself though. Will try over the weekend and see.

Oz: Wait, you mean if I change it now I might have to do it again.

Veena: Thanks. Oh, and btw, in the spirit of better late than never. Remember the Booker Mela? My review of The People's Act of Love is up on Considerable Speck.

whadaheg: Thanks for the input

Linked footnotes is welcome.
When u put a foot note please also put a tag on footnote to go back to the orginal location from there. Now d&c will read ur footnotes also.

Secondly black color is perfectly fine. Those who have problem Just press CONTROL+A and hurray ur problem is solved.

I have added u to my list of "blogs I read".
