Fragment of an unwritten epic

As when a river, approaching its destined sea,
is tempered by sycophant streams and loses its
force, thus our hero, drawing near the fated
moment, finds himself weakened by slow committee,
by a mischief of mouths that do dispel his true
purpose, and bidding him meander in doubtful
channels, blunt the swelling course of his intent.

(and no, this has nothing to do with my dissertation, thanks for asking)

the swelling course of his intent.

doesn't sound like any dissertation to me.

What's with all the hemming and hawing? More details about the orgy, please.

Sheesh! one track minds all of you.

The dissertation connection comes from the word committee - a word that in these troubled days has one and only one meaning for me. A meaning utterly inconsistent with the idea of an orgy (ewww!)

For advice on what to do in situations like the above, please consult Kafka's short story and fragment, "Report to an Academy": ie., show them your wound! See also, "the swelling course of his intent".

TR: True, true. But it's not so much like an orgy as it is like a pack of vultures clawing at a slowly putrefying dead horse. And no S&M jokes about flogging please.

equivocal: See, but I'm trying to get through this without going ape.
