Hostage to Momus

Those of you who are the anal detail-oriented type may have noticed that as of today this site has a new link on the sidebar - a link to a site called Momus.

Here's the thing. I'm starting to get a little tired of Blogger. I seem to have difficulties with it at least twice a week and despite the fact that I've now got categories working fairly well - they're still a pain. So I've decided to try out Wordpress instead.

As a first step towards that, I've created a new blog (titled Momus, see Wikipedia for why) and shifted all my posts from Considerable Speck (remember that one) to Momus. My plan is to maintain both blogs for this month, and then, assuming that Momus works out, move permanently to Wordpress (I'm also considering shifting 2x3x7 to Wordpress [1], but I'm going to see how this Momus thing works and then decide).

This also means, btw, that you can check out an alternate template on the Wordpress site and tell me if you like that better.

[1] Actually, 2x3x7 has already been shifted to Wordpress, I'm just not updating it for now.

Wordpress has its own set of issues, if I'm not mistaken. For instance, you can't change the font and you have to choose one of the set themes they have, which I think are below par. Also, it's a little slow at times. But I'm relatively new at wordpress, so that was just my two cents' worth.

Pointblank: True. The editor in Blogger is definitely better. But realistically, I've almost never used anything but the default font on Blogger, so the only real hardship I foresee is when one has to copy text from outside WP into it.

As for the templates / themes - I actually like the WP themes better - and I love the fact that they let me click and drag sidebar widgets - it's so much easier than reading through pages of code in Blogger to figure out where the hell that stuff was. And while it is a little irritating that WP doesn't actually let you customise the theme beyond the basics - that's not really a hardship for someone like me who's ability to read code is roughly at par with his ability to speak latin.

dexter: see above. what i like about WP is primarily the categories, the fact that the themes are easier to set up and stuff like page breaks and excerpts and stuff that they let you do. But all of that may just be a grass being greener on the other side thing. Let's see.

I am also interested in the outcome, especially the moving of this blog to there. (Can you get there form here?) I occasionally am dissatisfied with Blogger but I'm not sure there is a better alternative.

falstaff: why don't you get a domain of your own? You have enough of a readership to justify the trouble. And you will be able to use wordpress's full functionality, as opposed to only the features they offer on wordpress.org.

Falstaff do you really have to shift?:| the font in the momus blog is a pain to read...if you could just change the font and the size.....and why change the present backgrnd?
