Further evidence that my life is a joke

One of my closest friends is getting married. I decide to write her a poem for the occasion. Casting about for a suitable metaphor, I come up with the idea of comparing the months leading up to the wedding to a river. I pack in a whole bunch of water images - talk about springs, and streams, and rivers and waves, etc. etc.

So what happens? Bombay, where my friend lives and is getting married, gets flooded. What's the bet that she's going to appreciate a poem that compares her wedding to large, flowing body of water now?

Gah!

This proves what we have known for some time now. You are pure evil.

Lol!

You are dangerous. I am sure she will return the favor whn you get married. :)

Liked your blog a lot.... Any problems if I link to your blog?

We surely don't want her writing poems of tornadoes when you get married. I will be living in PA soon, so please consider having wedding elsewhere.

also plz do let me know who u intend getting married to. Have an article from the NY times that I ought to be forwarding.

Falstaff, the poem is so very beautiful!

Rains or floods, am sure your friend is going to treasure it for a long time...though she might rib you forever, for conjuring an actual flood for her wedding. :)

Next time you write a poem dont mention any ember, spark, glow, torch etc. India has far too many fire-accidents and bomb-blasts and could do without any that are concomitant with your literary pursuits:-)

Just read the poem. I guess my previous comment was in haste. Your gift to your friend is truly amazing......
Also I sincerely hope that the situation is not as bad as it seems on TV (as n has pointed out)and your friend has had /is having a memorable ceremony.

n: yes, I figured as much. Still, it's not the happiest association.

jabberwock: No, no. See if I were pure evil, then I would be able to take care of my own, no? I'm more like Cassandra.

confused: Ya, well. By the time that happens global warming will already have submerged most of Bombay, so it won't matter so much.

anacreon: thanks. And link away.

alpha: My astrologer tells me that she's an earth sign, so earthquakes are more likely.

I wouldn't worry too much about my wedding, though. You'd be better off worrying about an asteroid striking Mars and deflecting into the Earth in a sort of cosmic billiards game. That's way more likely to happen.

Shoe-fiend: You know, I hadn't thought of that till just now *looks anxiously at the sky*

N: Thanks. And lets hope so.

abhilasha: thanks. And good point. Do you think it would be safe to burn my poem about diyas?

such a comic twist to a wonderful poem...

looks similar to the case of Tansen invoking the rain Gods!

seriously though, what are the chances your freind is going to sit around reading your blog like some other jobless people here on her wedding day???
(though he/she just might. I read the NYT cover to cover the prev night, to calm me down)

swathi: Thanks. That's the last time I sing in the shower.

anand: let's hope so.

anon: oh, I'm certain she's not going to be reading this blog on her wedding day. But I'm sure she'll eventually read the poem - mostly because I also e-mailed her a copy. And it's not like she'll have forgotten a minor detail like the flooding in Bombay the day she got married.

ggop: Yes, it's on my list.

falstaff:

just thank your lucky stars that you did not have to write an ode to a full-term pregnant friend in new orleans last year! or did you?

anacreon:

yes, you might get too much traffic. your bandwidth might narrow so much that your screen will redraw pixel by pixel. can you handle it?

alpha:

serves you right for mentioning falstaff. now i am here too, raining on your ... well, never mind.
